Helisafe 95th - 415-0000

Overview
The HeliSafe 95 percentile Male dummy was developed as a test instrument for the European HeliSafe helicopter safety program sponsored by the TNO Crash Safety Center starting in the year 2000. The 95th dummy is a modification of the 95th Hybrid III automotive test dummy. Required modifications for the HeliSafe program included an erect seating posture, weight redistribution, accommodation of thorax deflection measurement with a modified abdomen, and the addition of accelerometers to the thoracic spine.
Dummy Design
The 95th dummy is an adaptation of a Hybrid III 95th automotive dummy with a straight lumbar spine, modified abdomen, and additional accelerometer mounts to give it the same measurement capabilities as the 50th dummy.
The dummies are constructed of steel and aluminum skeletons covered by urethane skin and vinyl foam. The neck and lumbar are rubber elements. Transducer replacements insure a complete structure if the actual transducers are not mounted. The construction is modular for ease of replacement, assembly and disassembly with articulated joints simulating human motion. The pelvis is molded in the seated position. Access is provided to the components for mounting accelerometers.
Testing
The head, neck, thorax, and knees of the dummies are lab tested to conform to proposed Federal rules for the H3-95th.
